Austria's predominate wine grapes in the majority of its grape growing regions are white wine varieties. is the white variety that is dominate in the Wien and Niederösterreich (Lower Austria) regions. However, it's international white varieties that are the most planted in the regions of Bergland (Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc) and Steiermark (Sauvignon Blanc). The only region in Austria where a red wine grape is dominant is the Burgenland region, bordering the nation of Hungary, where Blaufränkisch is the most planted.
