Spain Wine Production, by Region...Red or White Wine?
Spain’s Castilla La Mancha region is the dominant producer of wine in the nation, accounting for 57% of all the wine produced by Spain, and the majority of this portion is white wine at just over 60%. In fact, white wine is the majority of wine produced by the majority of Spain’s regions...thus Spain wine production overall is majority white at 58% of the nation’s total output compared to 42% for red wine.
Interestingly, there are two regions where only one wine overwhelmingly dominates (over 90%) the respective region’s wine production. In the Murcia region 90.1% of all the wine produced is red wine, whereas in Andalucía it is white wine that accounts for nearly all of the region’s production at 95%.
