Tuscany Topographic Relief Map

New hypsometric shaded relief map! This map is an effective way to visualize the topography of Italy's Tuscany (Toscana) region by applying a color ramp to elevation categories, called hypsometric tinting. Coupled with the elevation tints is a digital shaded relief layer derived from real-world terrain data. Combining these layers, you get a very effective visualization not only of the lowland and highland areas, but also the undulating hills, mountains, and even the slope, orientation, and drainage! All very important attributes to viticulture.

This map will help you to contextualize Tuscany's vineyard geography and to better understand why vineyards are located where they are. For example, how high elevations can impact a wine region (e.g. rain shadow effect), the dramatic contrast of a grape growing valley and the surrounding mountains (e.g. Lombardy’s Valtellina), and characteristic rolling hills such as those of Piedmont’s Langhe.

Every map is made using real-world digital elevation data collected from space shuttle missions. You won’t find “artist renditions” on our maps. All of our maps use accurate real-world data. Every map includes spot elevations throughout, as well as the notable wine villages of the region.

This map lithograph is printed on 100# heavy-stock paper with a clean matte finish perfect for framing. Display in your home cellar, commercial tasting room, or as a gift for any wine connoisseur.
